Top 10: Most beautiful Cars In The World-OLD IS GOLD

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

1962 Lotus Elite = 4th

The beautiful and small Elite was the result of Colin Chapman's (founder of Lotus) obsession with low weights of cars. Not only was the body constructed from fiberglass, but so was the chassis in a similar method to modern day carbon fibre hypercars.
There were problems, fibreglass not being as strong as carbon fibre, quiet a few were horribly damaged. Yet the small 75bhp engine, low weight and efficient aerodynamics made this a great little car and is joint 4th in the top 10.

1972 Lotus Elan = 4th

The Elan followed on from the (above) Elite, again it was made from fibreglass, yet this time had a steel backbone to add strength and rigidity. Annoying some purist designers saying it wasn't in the Elite style. Yet the Elan was far more popular and safer.
The minimalist design, sweeping curves and 'before it's time' pop up head lights make this a stunning little British sports car. 20 years later Mazda based their MX5 on the Elan, which has since gone on to be one of the most popular sports cars.

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

1968 Lamborghini Miura = 4th

A simply stunning car. It was British motoring journalist LJK Setright that referred to this car as a "supercar" which is where it all started. This is the FIRST supercar! Marcello Gandini who was on the judging panel for this list was also the chief designer of the Muira.
Designed by Lamborghini to prove a point to Ferrari who at the time said all sports cars should be front engined-rear wheel drive, the Muira was a mid engined V12 monster. According to many, non have come close to replicating this car's striking lines.

1971 Jaguar E-Type = 4th

1971 Jaguar E-Type = 4th

For such a fast and powerful car, the Jaguar E Type is seen as many as a feminine design, with its sleek lines and beautiful stance. Some even refer to it as feline.
Styled around the aerodynamic of the D Type racers of the time, the E Type was a road friendly race car. It was technologically advanced for its time, yet the classic lines have remained as beautiful as ever.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB = 4th

When you think of beautiful cars, you can't forget the Ferrari's! This is the first of 3, and one of 2 from the 250 model. The GT SWB (Short Wheel Base) was described by Jaguar's Ian Cullen as “a blend of beauty and aggression. I just drool over them and can draw them with my eyes closed.”(obviously a fan)
Ferrari only ever made 165 of the GT SWB, and as a result the price is huge! Perfect examples will sell for upwards of $4mil when they come up for auction, which is not that often. The California Spyder version of the GT SWB became the most expensive car ever in May 2008 when it sold for a whopping $10.9 million to British Radio DJ Chris Evans.

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso = 4th

The Lusso was the final version of the 250 model. It kept some of the aggressive racing lines of the SWB racer (above) yet some of the lines were smoothed out to give a more relaxing look. It was more of a Grand Tourer car, so was less aggressive in the driving too.
Pininfarina helped design this car leaving in the racing pedigree of Ferrari, yet the softer lines added some character to this stunning car. The Lusso pictured above was once owned by car nut Steve McQueen before his death.

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

1937 Cord 810/812 = 4th

The less well known Cord 810/812 series from the 1930's. It was way ahead of it's time with it's futuristic lines, Miura designer Marcello Gandini saying “it was an impressive design for the 1930s with solutions that would be seen on cars 20 years later.”
Using a V8 in front wheel drive was unheard of in the 30's, as well as hand cranked pop up head lights and a retractable roof. Sadly only 3000 of the 810 and supercharged 812's were ever produced.

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

1967 Ferrari 275GTB/4 Berlinetta = 2nd

Like the 250 GT Lusso, the 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta was a Grand Tourer. Designed to be comfy over long distances, but with serious power and speed if you needed it derived from Ferrari race cars.
Taking it's most basic lines from the classic 250 GTO, it was obviously aggressive, yet beautiful in it. A technological masterpiece, in a beautiful skin. "It was a fast as it was beautiful."

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

1952 Jaguar XK120 = 2nd

It seems an age away from it's 10 year younger E Type brother, but the XK120 is simply stunning. Jaguar's first post war sports car, this captured the hearts of many after many years of depressing war. It had a simply look, yet the lines made for a fun drive.
It was, like all the cars in the list, technogically marvelous, he straight six became a solid engine for Jaguar for years to come. The style of the long bonnet and short rear end also did well for Jaguar (see E Type) and this car set them up nicely for 50 years of amazing cars.

1968 Citroen DS 1st

1968 Citroen DS 1st

1958 Citroen DS 1st

Are you a little surprised that a Citroen would be number 1? To those who know cars, it won't have been as the French makers 50's classic is regarded as one of the finest cars ever made.
“Impossible to imitate,” Giorgetto Giugiaro
“A few people may have thought of all of these beautiful ideas but it was real bravery to implement them in one car,” Marcello Gandini
“I have always considered the fact this car was first drawn in 1955 to be extraordinary.” Peter Stevens
What more do you need to say? These are some of the most regarded car designers of the last 50 years, and they love the Citroen DS. It seems so do Citroen, as in early 2009, they announced the name DS will be revived for a new range. Let's hope there as beautiful as the original.

Fastest Cars In The World: Top 10 List 2011-2012

World's Fastest Cars
While most of us can only dream of owning the fastest car in the world, some will do whatever it takes to possess the most powerful speed. So, how fast are the fastest cars in the world?
Here are the 10 fastest cars available on the market (production models, as opposed to concept cars) measured by tested top speed (theoretical speeds do not count).
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport267 mph, 0-60 in 2.4 secs. Aluminum, Narrow Angle 8 Liter W16 Engine with 1200 hp, base price is $2,400,000. Although the Bugatti Veyron lost the title to SSC Ultimate Aero on March 2007, Bugatti challenge the record in Germany on July 10, 2010 with the new 2010 Super Sport Version and the Veyron once again claims the title of the fastest car in the world at 267 mph. The original Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 253 mph, priced at $1,700,000 and equipped with 1001 hp.

Bentley Reveals New, More Powerful Continental Convertible

Luxury car maker Bentley Motors says it will unveil the second generation of its Continental GTC convertible at the International Automobile Exhibition, or IAA, next month in Frankfurt. The company, which is a unit of Volkswagen AG, says the new car will have a sharper, more muscular look than the recent GTC, which has a softer, more rounded appearance.
Bentley says the new car will follow a design direction similar to that of the redesigned Continental GT Coupe that arrived on the market last year. Compared with the previous Continental GTC the company launched in 2006, the new version is roomier, with a more assertive stance, and has certain features that give it a richer feel.
One example, the company says, is a new technique for manufacturing the aluminum front fenders that eliminates seams and welds, and gives the car a custom coach-built look. Standard 20-inch wheels give the car a more up-to-date appearance, and 21-inch wheels are an option.
To get the big, heavy ragtop moving with more authority, the car maker installed a more powerful version of its 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine with 575 horsepower, compared with 560 for the previous model.  A tweaked transmission called the QuickShift speeds up gear changes and aids acceleration.
The all-wheel-drive Continental GTC is available to order and the first deliveries to customers will begin in late 2011.

COULD THE AUDI Q5 SPOIL THE BMW X3′S PARTY?

Audi Q5 and BMW X3

Audi Q5 and BMW X3
BMW India has finally launched the all new BMW X3. The new X3 was supposed to arrive at the beginning of the year but was delayed due to some technical reasons which we had discussed in an earlier article. Just days ahead of its launch Audi mysteriously decided to slash the prices of the Audi Q5 which directly rivals the X3. We did expect BMW to react to this but, BMW went on with their strategy and announced the pricing for the car. The new BMW X3 range starts at Rs 42 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.
Audi’s cunning move has put a question mark on the new BMW X3′s future. Audi has been the best seller in this segment. The previous generation BMW X3 did not do well in India. The sales figures for the past months speak for themselves. BMW sold just 14 units of the BMW X3 since January, 2011. So what prompted Audi to take such a brave decision? The Audi Q5 was priced at around Rs 43 lakh ex-showroom before launching the Business Edition model. The new Q5 with a 2.0 litre TDI now costs just Rs 35.13 lakh. Now, that is Rs 6 lakh less than the equivalent BMW X3.
We were expecting BMW’s pricing to be competitive but, the new pricing might not please those who were waiting for new X3 to arrive in India. Audi’s Business Edition Q5 with its attractive price tag does have an advantage over the beemer. Also, Audi has not stripped-out the Audi Q5 to offer it at a lower price. You still get 17 inch alloy wheels, sun-roof, ABS, Air-bags for both driver and passenger etc. Under the bonnet is a 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine that puts out 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque.
Audi Q5 and BMW X3
Audi Q5 and BMW X3
So as far as pricing is concerned, the Audi wins the first round and in India, this could have serious ramifications on the sales of the new BMW X3. We will keep an eye on the X3′s performance over the next couple of months and only then we will actually be able to analyse the effects of Audi’s aggressive pricing strategy. Until then, all we can say is that both products deserve their fair share of admiration. Both SUV’s feature all-wheel drive however, the BMW is a tad bit powerful than the Audi.
The BMW X3 xDrive20d’s 4-cylinder diesel puts out 184 bhp and 380 torques. The beemer has also got an 8-speed automatic unlike the Audi’s 7-speed box. Also, the BMW has got road presence which vital when driving on Indian roads especially when you need to hustle someone to pass him. The Audi, on the other hand is more understated. So, in the end it will all boil down to personal choice. The BMW is better looking but the Audi isn’t brash either.
The BMW is more powerful and comes with BMW’s characteristic handling DNA. But, the Rs 6 lakh difference does make it lose out on all fronts because, in India, price does matter whether you’re rich or poor. However, a few questions need to be answered. Was Audi losing confidence in its product that had been leading the segment alongside a not-so-competent rival product? How was Audi able to shave 6 lakh rupees off its sticker price in the first place?

Buggati Veyron vs Airbus A380

Airbus A380 superjumbo vs Bugatti Veyron

Airbus A380 superjumbo vs Bugatti Veyron - News image

The Airbus A380 ‘superjumbo’ double-decker is the largest ever passenger plane.
But which is the greater feat of engineering – the supercar or the superjumbo?
Vijay Pattni takes a look at two heavyweights.
Both were beset with development difficulties.
Both push the boundaries of technology and innovation.
And both are a masterful display of mankind doing what it does best – making life faster and more comfortable.
In the red corner, we have the Bugatti Veyron. In the blue corner, the Airbus A380. Let battle commence…
Cost
The Airbus A380 has a list price of a cool £155 million – but the sheer bulk of the plane means existing airports will have to plough billions worth of investment into making runways bigger.
And the entire programme is estimated to have cost the company £8 billion to develop. Airbus reckons it needs to sell 420 A380s to break even – so far, around 165 orders have been placed.
The Bugatti Veyron costs £830,000 – a bargain next to the Airbus.
But don’t get too excited – finding one for this price is tricky. And Volkswagen – who own Bugatti – claim each Veyron costs £5 million to make, meaning every single Veyron sold by the company is sold at a loss.
Winner – Bugatti Veyron. Airbus A380’s costs are, frankly, sky-high.
Speed
The Airbus A380 has a cited cruising speed of Mach 0.85 and a top speed of Mach 0.89 – which equates to over 560mph.
And the Bugatti Veyron – formerly the fastest production car in the world until it was beaten by the SSC Ultimate Aero TT – tops out at a colossal 253mph.
But this top speed is only part of the story – the monster 8-litre 16.4 cylinder engine which sits in the Veyron’s ultra advanced body catapults the road rocket from 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds.
Winner – Bugatti Veyron. Airbus A380 is no Concorde – the Bugatti Veyron was built for speed.
Weight
The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger plane, with the capacity to accommodate 853 people in economy class – meaning a maximum take-off weight of 530,000kg. The largest of the Boeing 747s weighs in at 439,000kg – and can only carry a maximum of 467 passengers.
A featherweight in comparison, the Bugatti Veyron weighs just 1889kg – but this weight is considerably heavier than most supercars, let alone hypercars.
Winner – Airbus A380. The Bugatti Veyron can only carry two people and weighs more than most supercars.
Body
Lightweight advanced materials make up a quarter of the Airbus A380’s airframe, including carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, glass-fibre reinforced plastic and quartz-fibre reinforced plastic.
And the manufacturing techniques involved in making an A380 result in a lighter, stronger structure.
The Veyron features extensive use of lightweight aluminium and carbon-fibre and is sculpted with an extremely aerodynamic bodyshell.
Winner – Bugatti Veyron. Bugatti may be heavier than most supercars, but aerodynamics make it fast.
Engines
The Airbus A380’s four Rolls-Royce engines each develop a maximum 84,000lbs of thrust – sufficient to power this monster of the skies to a cruising speed of 560mph – and is a redevelopment of an earlier design.
But the heart of the Veyron is a technological masterpiece – an all-new 16.4 cylinder 8-litre engine featuring four turbochargers.
This means it develops 1,001bhp – though some have suggested it is capable of more – and unlike most cars of this ilk, is as reliable as a Golf.
Winner – Bugatti Veyron. Its W16 engine is a masterpiece of modern engineering.
Overall winner – the Bugatti Veyron.
The Airbus A380 may be the world’s largest passenger plane, but for sheer engineering achievement, the Bugatti Veyron is a masterpiece.
Some other engineering milestones…
Cars
1885 – Karl Benz invents first engine1914 – Ford Model Ts start rolling off the production line 1962 – GM produces first turbocharged cars1997 – Thrust SSC sets 1997 world land speed record
2006 – Bugatti Veyron world’s fastest production car [now SSC Ultimate Aero]
Planes
1903 – First plane flown by the Wright Brothers1947 – X-1 rocket powered research plane becomes first piloted supersonic flight1958 – Pan Am inaugurated Boeing 747 jet service1976 – Concorde begins first high-speed Atlantic crossing 2007 – Airbus A380 superjumbo completes its maiden voyage
